Chiefs Host Lions in NFL 2023 Season Opener

On September 7, 2023, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium for the regular season kickoff of the National Football League.

The Chiefs will raise the flag commemorating their triumph over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII that evening.

In 2020, the Chiefs’ victory over the Houston Texans was declared in front of an announced total of 15,895. This was due to COVID-19 limits.

In 2022, the Lions finished with a 9-8 record, their first winning season since 2017. They are the first participants in the NFL Kickoff Game, which has been held annually since 2002.

The Chiefs may have played the Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills, or Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs will host the Raiders from Las Vegas on December 25 in a game that will live on Nickelodeon and CBS. This is one among few games disclosed before the entire 2023 calendar was released on Thursday night. The 49ers will host the

Cowboys in Week 5 on October 8 and travel to play the Eagles in a repeat of the 2022 NFC Championship Game in Week 13 on December 3.

The Chiefs are 2-0 in NFL Kickoff Games, having beaten the defending champion New England Patriots in 2017 and the Houston Texans in 2020. The host team is 16-5 in NFL Kickoff Games overall.
